I have always had an interest in art. I have always been fascinated by the play of shadow and light. I have treasured color and texture in much the same way many treasure jewelry or gem stones. In my work I love to try capture these subtleties, these gentle nuances, things I must quiet myself to perceive.
Although not presented here, I enjoy painting and sketching portraits. Often I have been inspired by art of the pre-Raphaelites, or at other times the watercolors of Homer. I've primarily worked in watercolor as a convenience, but have enjoyed spontaneous, perhaps even rash bursts of experimentation with oils. The more tame oil pieces are what I've chosen to present. The watercolor landscape was painted from a photo of taken on a recent trip to the northern California coastline last year.
