Up until May 13, 2004, I cared for my best friend Vivian, my mother. She'd been very ill for a number of years, and during that period would continually urge me to become involved in painting. I never had any conscious desire to take art lessons, but after she passed away, I could still hear her say, "Kris, just give it a try."

So, I began classes in June of 2004 and participated in my first art exhibit in October that same year. I sold a few paintings and have been involved in watercolors every since. Mom must have known something that I didn't! Cats, big and small, tend to be my favorite to paint. I find it relaxing, yet challenging, to try to capture their individual expressions. Samantha, Buddy and Max are "my kids" who bring a great deal of love and joy into my life. Hence, they were the first ones painted! And maybe they have something to do with my desire for trying to capture other furry creatures on paper?
